Kantfabriek, deel 3

In de Kantfabriek waren een tweetal vitrines met heel aparte sieraden gevuld. Een kunstenares wilde weten of de machines ook met ander materiaal dan katoenen draad uit de voeten konden. En dat lukte. Ze maakte van een kunststof draad een soort tunneltje. En in dit tunneltje stopte ze zilveren kralen. Daarna knoopte ze de kralen vast in de tunnel. Bond er nog wat dingen en kralen bij, en voila een heel aparte ketting. Mijn uitleg is vast niet duidelijk, maar de foto's zijn misschien duidelijker.
In the Kantfabriek were 2 little displays with unusual jewelry. An artist wanted to try if the machines also work with a synthetic thread instead of the usual cotton. And it worked. Ze made a cylinder of synthetic thread. In that she did some silver beads, knotted it. And voila a very rare necklace. My explanation is not very luminous, but the pictures maybe are.

De kunstenares maakte ook driekhoekige opbjecten van het synthetische kant. Het is immers stijf genoeg voor een 3D voorwerp. Of het speciaal voor Koninginnedag in oranje was, wist de suppoost niet te vertellen.
The artist also made triangle objects from the synthetic lace. It is strong enough to build in 3D. The warden could not tell me if the orange colour was chosen because of Queensday.

Eigenlijk kenden we die tunneltjes al langer. Want wie kent de oude krulrollers van vroeger niet. Ook hier zat een soort kunststof tunneltje rond een ijzeren frame. En dat tunneltje is van synthetisch garen geklost op een machine, ook in Horst. Op de bovenstaande foto liggen ze rechts. Links zie je de tunnels waar ze van gemaakt zijn. De tunnels van de sieraden waren wat smaller.
Actually we did know about the little cylinders. Everybody will recognize the hair curlers from our grandma's. They had a synthetic cylinder round a iron frame. And the cylinder was artificial made, in Horst. On the picture above we see the curlers at the right. On the left are the cylinders before they turned into a curler. The cylinders for the jewelry were smaller.
